CymraegEaster Sunday means a giant rock art mural! Or at least it does here a HeritageTogether, so an early start saw Helen, Andrew, and I heading off to Segontium Roman fort, where we have been asked to be part of the Easter activities organised by Adele Thackray, Field monument warden at Cadw.
We’d got a number of exciting crafty activities lined up to entertain smaller folk, and introduce their adults to the photogrammetry project. Chiefly this comprised of a giant passage tomb-inspired canvas, decorated using motifs lifted from Bryn Celli Ddu, Barclodiad y Gawres, and monuments in Ireland. We worked with children and parents, to co-produce their alternative impressions of the patterns and symbols decorating these monuments. We’d also lined up a series of cut and stick activities to assemble a 3D paper standing stones, and colour in the ancients!
It was great to have Helen on hand to help with the Welsh language delivery — you can see her here introducing one artist to the motifs from Barclodiad y Gawres.
