Some of my visits to local archaeology societies:

Wirral & North Wales Field Archaeology   8th February 2014

Ben and I got on the road for a meeting with the Wirral & North Wales Field Archaeology Group in the backroom of a pub in Neston. A small group, but vocal and active we received a warm welcome. As is the way of these things, it soon became apparent that Ben and the group had excavated on sites in close proximity. A quick introduction to the project, and then we hit the road again for our first fieldtrip to some sites on Anglesey the next day. Thanks to Julie and all for the welcome!

Mersey Archaeology Society   20th February 2014

A bit further north this time, and I set out to talk to the Mersey Archaeology Society. They treated me to a lovely Italian before the meeting, where it was great to catch up with the other speaker Dr Sue Stallibrass, English Heritage Science advisor. The audience were really enthusiastic, and asked some pertinent questions, so we’re looking forward to see what comes of it! Thanks to Gina for arranging the meeting, and Rob for comparing!

Chester Archaeology Society   8th March 2014

Chester saw Ben and I in the delightful surroundings of the Grosvenor Museum, where we introduced the project to the Society. Being on Ben’s home turf, we’re hoping we can get the Chester folk especially involved in the project. Thanks to Julie for all her help!

Lancashire Archaeology Society   21st March 2014

Further sojourns into the north, this time to Lancashire. It was great to see the presentation of Dr Rick Peterson also on the 21st, and I felt right at home show casing some of our 3D results to an audience including Rick. One of the society members commented on how he’d undertaken photogrammetry during the war, so it was great to come full circle from that to the digital applications.

Powysland Club, Newtown   22nd March 2014

A whistle stop tour down to the beauty of the Marches the next day saw me talking to the Powysland Club about the project. A whole series of simulating question, and ideas about applications were put forward, and we’re really looking forward to seeing what the Club members come up with. Thanks to John, David, Brian, and Charlotte for the lift back to the station!

St Asaph Archaeology Society   2nd April 2014

St Asaph is a bit difficult to get to on public transport, but that didn’t stop HeritageTogether! And we’re very glad we did! I got a great reception from the society, and was also privileged to see some of the treasure members had discovered in their recent fieldwalking. Thanks to Andrea for all her organizing skills! Last train back and home for half past midnight!
